DESCRIPTION: This ascomycete induced gall distorts the leaves of Alders and causes large gatherings of blister-like growths. Eventually a form of gigantism will take over the whole leaf and it can increase in size up 5 times the norm. The tissue will become pale, thin and fragile and will develop a whitish bloom when the asci develop later on in the season. DISTRIBUTION: Common throughout from early summer onwards. HABITAT: On Alder. |
